Taranis is a Demon in the Persona series.

Profile

Origin

Taranis, also spelled Taranus, Tanaris, or Tanarus, is a Gaulish deity whose name is also attested in inscriptions in other Celtic-speaking areas. He was likely related to thunder in some fashion: his name appears to derive from Proto-Celtic *toranos (cf. Irish torann, Welsh taran), and there are inscriptions dedicated to Taranis that equate him with the Roman deity Jupiter (Jove).

The Roman poet Lucan claims in his epic Pharsalia that the Gauls engaged in human sacrifice to Teutates, Esus, and Taranis.
