Profile

Origin

According to Saxo Grammaticus, Svetovit (probably meaning "holy lord") was a deity worshiped by the Rani tribe of Polabian Slavs on the island of Rügen. Saxo claims that Svetovit was believed to wage war against the Rani's enemies on horseback.

Helmold of Bosau similarly says that Zuantevith was the most important god of the people of Rügen.
