Profile
Origin
Qin Shubao[a] was a Tang dynasty general who served Emperor Taizong in the Changchun Palace. Native to Licheng, Qizhou, he is said to have participated in over 200 battles and was enfeoffed as Duke of Yi[b] for his particularly effective performance during the Xuanwu Gate Incident,[c] and posthumously enfeoffed Duke of Hu[d] as well. It is said that Emperor Taizong ordered depictions of Qin Shubao and Yuchi Gong,[e] who were then placed on palace gates, which led to them becoming door gods akin to Tunkou. He died in the year 638.[1][2]
