Japan is a location in the Megami Tensei franchise. It is directly based on the real-life country of Japan, an island nation off the east coast of Asia. Most, though not all, games in the Megami Tensei franchise take place in Japan, often in Tokyo, its capital. Since 1889, Japan has been a constitutional monarchy whose head of state is the emperor and head of government is the prime minister.
