Dx2 Duel is a gameplay mode in Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2.

Overview

Dx2 Duel is a mode where the player fights against other players' AI-controlled parties. The player's performance in this mode will give them weekly rewards depending on their Ranking Points, in addition to Battle Points for successful duels.

Players create a Defense Party outside of battle, consisting of a Dx2, four Demons and a Devil Connector. The Defense Party is used when the player is dueled, and it will be controlled by the Demons' AI. Whenever the player's Defense Party is attacked, it is logged on the Defense Log, alongside the team that attacked them. The player can take action on losses by attacking the Defense Party of the player that defeated them.

The player is then provided a list of Defense Parties. They can select one and choose to battle them, or fight a random team for increased rewards, though one Duel Stamina must be spent either way. The list of players refreshes automatically each day or after all players on that list have been challenged. Alternatively, the list can be refreshed manually; this is free every 5 minutes, but requires Gems outside of that period or after an automatic refresh. Winning a battle starts a Streak, which grants increasing bonuses for subsequent battles until the player list is manually refreshed or the player is defeated.

There are also Training battles. These are battles against fixed, non-player Defense Parties, though none of them have a Dx2 or a Devil Connector. Training battles do not affect the player's Ranking Points, but still give Battle Points and also give Gems. Once the party is challenged, it will become unavailable for a number of hours.

Performance in Dx2 Duel — both attacking and defending — affects the player's Ranking Points, which serve as the rating system, though Bronze players do not lose Ranking Points when their Defense Party is defeated. Once the player earns a set amount of points, their Class will increase accordingly. Players are only able to duel players that are near their rating.

Battle Mechanics

Prior to battling another player, the attacking player can look at the enemy team, though skills in Skill Transfer slots will be obscured. The player can still see the Demon's Archetype.

Outside of Training battles, all Demons are subject to Level Adjustment. The party going first starts with 2 MP, while the party going second starts with 5 MP. At the start of the battle, effects that activate at this point trigger, then Brand effects, then Devil Connector effects, then "start of turn" effects. Priority for each of these is given to the party going first.

At the end of the second party's turns, the Defense Effect timer decreases by 1 turn, starting from 3 turns. Once this timer reaches 0, the attacking party will receive damage, increasing each time the Defense Effect activates.

Streak

If the attacking player wins a battle (except Training, Revenge and Defense Test), they will start a Streak. Streak grants them increasing bonuses for each consecutive win. The Streak resets to 0 after 12 hours without battling, manually refreshing the player list or being defeated in battle.

1 +2% damage
2 +2% damage, +4% HP
3 +4% damage, +4% HP
