Profile

Origin

Coppélia is an 1870 French ballet by Arthur Saint-Léon, Charles Nuitter, and Léo Delibes, based loosely on the short story "The Sandman" by E. T. A. Hoffmann. The ballet features a dancing automaton named Coppélia, who is so lifelike that a young man named Franz is convinced she is a real girl and falls in love with her, despite already being engaged to marry a woman named Swanilda.
