Alternate Hero is a version of the protagonist from a future where Vanitas caused the Extinction Event and they are the last surviving human. They are found by Jabo Kakuryu, and they ask him to show them the world where they made different choices. Kakuryu obliges, but shows them a world where they are the opposite sex to avoid complications with approaching a world that is too similar to theirs. Knowing what happened in their world, they ask to be taken to the protagonist's world in hopes of saving it, giving themselves the "Alternate Hero" codename.
They first appear in the protagonist's world to sabotage the Brotherhood of Harmony's gatling guns so the ex-Liberators can make their escape, though they don't fight the Brotherhood as they are still a possible way to save the world. They then summon Hresvelgr and fly away.
They later appear in the Oshiage Safehouse while the ex-Liberators and Vince are discussing how to rescue Honey Sweet, claiming to be an ex-Liberator themselves and to know her whereabouts. They take them to the Japanese branch of the Brotherhood of Harmony in Roppongi, but doesn't tell them how they learned of this or why they seem to know more about them than they should. The ex-Liberators are suspicious of them, but decide to attack regardless. Inside of the underground facility, they meet Amane Misaki, who guides them to Honey's cell, though she had already been transported. When the ex-Liberators are spotted by guards, Alternate Hero is tasked with protecting and escaping with Misaki. When the ex-Liberators are forced to fight Honey Sweet after she had been reprogrammed by the Brotherhood and is told to disengage her self-preservation protocol, Alternate Hero appears and uses a vocal emergency failsafe code for Acolyte Homunculi, reverting Honey to her usual self. Lindsay Altkin attacks the ex-Liberators, but is stopped by Amane Misaki, who reveals herself to be the "Enlightened One", the head of the Brotherhood. Misaki takes them to a sermon, which is hijacked by the Elements to kill the civilians with Demons. The ex-Liberators fight off the Demons in the civilians' interest, then peacefully return to the Safehouse. There, Alternate Hero tells the ex-Liberators that they must leave to attend to other matters, and that they'll be waiting to see how the ex-Liberators decide to tackle the Extinction Event.
