Abscess
Abscesses are a mechanic in Shin Megami Tensei V.
Overview
Abscesses are large objects in the world which remain idle until the Nahobino approaches them. When they are approached, they create an intangible perimeter around themselves and begin spawning Demon Symbols to attack the Nahobino. The demons from these Symbols cannot be negotiated with. Leaving the Abscess's perimeter will return it to its idle state.
If the Abscess itself is attacked, a battle will begin against its demons. Unlike boss battles, Abscesses can be escaped from. If the demons are defeated, the Abscess will be permanently destroyed and new Miracles are unlocked.
The only required Abscess is the one in Mita, while all others are optional.

Abscesses cover the map with red and black waves centered on the Abscess until it is destroyed.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance
Abscesses do not cover the map as they did in Shin Megami Tensei V.
