Megami Ibunroku Persona: Shadow Maze is a novel in the Persona series. The protagonist is Maki Sonomura.
Synopsis
Prologue - In the shadowless room
Maki Sonomura is in the hospital and details her unhappiness with herself and real life. Due to her illness, she views herself as "lesser" to other people, and explains that she will always be separate to others. She instead immerses herself in a "dream world", a world where she is always happy and doesn't have to deal with other people.
Chapter 1 - Incident
Maki wakes up at her desk at school after school is over at around 5 PM, and realises that the school is seemingly empty apart from her. She explains that a month before, a "wall" appeared in the school, and demons lead by a "girl in black" started terrorising the students. Since then, Maki has been working alongside Yosuke Naito to fight the demons, whose motivation is to protect his girlfriend Chisato Kasai.
Around school, students claim Naito went missing two months ago, much to Maki's surprise. While looking for Naito, Maki runs into Jihei Suzuakin, Masao Inaba, Eriko Kirishima, Yuka Ayase, Kei Nanjo and Yuko Himeno. They're all surprised to see Maki, saying she was supposed to be at the hospital. The group of students discusses needing to go to SEBEC to take down Takahisa Kandori, which confuses Maki. They explain their version of events to Maki, which line up with the opening hours of Megami Ibunroku Persona. They decide to take Maki with them on their way to SEBEC. In the city, Maki awakens to her Persona Maso.
