Reason is a central concept in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. After The Conception the new structure of the world must be decided. In order to achieve this the ones who can hold a Reason must fight to make their vision a reality. One's Reason is a strong philosophical vision of what the new world should be, similar to alignments. Once a reason is chosen the demon-infested intermediary Vortex World will be replaced with the true next universe.

Manikins are specifically stated to not be able to form Reasons, as only humans can form reason.

The Demi-fiend is a major player and his decision of which reason to support is a deciding factor in the outcome, though he cannot form his own reason as he is half demon.
