Tatsuhime Shrine is a location in Persona 4. It is a shrine that has similar functionality to other shrines in the Persona series.
Overview
Tatsuhime Shrine is a local community shrine located in the Central Shopping District. It hosts events like the end of summer festival which takes place on August 20th-21st. The enshrined deity is Toyotamahime.[1]
Gameplay
In Persona 4, the protagonist interacts with the shrine from the street of the Central Shopping District, and selecting to accept a new ema request, or report back on the current request. After maxing out the Hermit, the protagonist can return to the shrine and choose to pray for a certain Social Link character and gain +10 Social Link points.
In Golden, the shrine becomes a playable location instead of just a cutscene location. The shrine can be entered from the north map of the Central Shopping District. Going there at night requires Courage rank 2. Golden also adds bug catching and trading jewels.
Social Link
- Main article: Gameplay:Fox
During the afternoons, the protagonist can do the Hermit Social Link by summoning the fox of Tatsuhime Shrine at the main hall. The Fox will give the protagonist a wooden ema tablet with the wish of someone in Inaba written on it. By fulfilling these requests, the protagonist advances the Fox's Social Link.
Main Hall
The protagonist can interact with the main hall during the afternoon and evenings.

When the protagonist prays at night time, he has a 15% chance of receiving a random item from the following, once per day:
Yashiro
Starting May 6th, the protagonist can draw a fortune at the smaller shrine. This will pass time and cost ¥200. Which fortune he receives determines how many points he gets with a particular Social Link. This feature replaces the option to pray for +10 Social Link points from Persona 4 after maxing the Hermit. Though it offers less points, it is now available immediately after unlocking the Hermit and can also be done at night time.
Blessing | Chance % | Effect |
---|---|---|
Great | 20% | +7 points |

Trivia
- In the 2009 lore and setting book, Persona Club P4, Atlus explains that the patron deity of the main hall of Tatsuhime Shrine is Toyotamahime. Her shrine in Inaba offers protection for childbirth and against water-related disasters.[1] Toyotamahime was a sea creature who also had the form of a human woman and lived under the sea in Ryugu Palace. One day, the human Hoori lost the fishing hook of his brother Hoderi. He came to Ryugu Palace in search of the missing hook, came across Toyotamahime, became a guest at Ryugu Palace, and eventually went back to the surface with Toyotamahime as his bride. While giving birth to their son, she stayed in a birthing hut and made Hoori promise not to look at her. But Hoori broke his promise and discovered Toyotamahime's true form as a sea creature, described as being something similar to a dragon or crocodile. Embarrassed, she returned to Ryugu Palace.[2]
- Atlus notes Toyotamahime's form being similar to a crocodile as being a similarity with the tale of the Hare of Inaba, which is where the city of Inaba gets its name from.
- In Golden, fishing was changed to be unlocked by retrieving a fish hook from Shiroku Pub with the character for "ku" in Shiroku Pub meaning palace. Ryugu Stones were also added to the game.
- The presence of the fox statues at the smaller sub-shrine suggest the patron deity at that shrine is Inari Ōkami as foxes are the messengers of Inari.
Nomenclature
The characters that make up the name Tatsuhime are dragon and princess, fitting with the shrine deity being Toyotamahime.
