Origin

A messianic figure of one prophesied to bring salvation is a common concept in many religions. The term "Messiah" is Hebrew and means "anointed one." Examples of messianic figures are Jesus in Christianity, Maitreya in Buddhism, the Saoshyant in Zoroastrianism, and the Mahdi in Islam.
