Nomenclature

Bizen was an old province of Japan which was famous for its production of swords. It is equivalent to the southern half of the modern Okayama Prefecture. The Osafune school was a school of swordsmithing located in the former town Osafune in Bizen province, which is now part of the city of Setouchi, Okayama Prefecture.
