Profile

Origin

Bugaboo is an alternate name for the Bogeyman, a mythical creature from folklore in various European countries used by parents to scare their children into having good behavior or being more obedient. The Bogeyman has since evolved and been incorporated into many more cultures, such as the Sack Man in Latin American countries and El Coco in Spain and Portugal.

Bucca-boo, or simply Bucca, is a type of creature in Cornish folklore.

Design

In Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, Bugaboo appears as a squatting devil with small wings and a tail. It has black skin largely covered in dark red mummy wrap and has long, sharp nails on both its hands and feet. It wears an off-white loincloth and has a red mask with devil horns protruding from the top, large white eyes, and sharp teeth with particularly emphasized fangs. Behind the mask are triangular ears, resembling those of a goat.
