Origin
Vitriol is an archaic term in alchemy used to refer to materials that are now known as metal sulfates.
Design
Vitriol appears as a green lion devouring a sun. This is in reference to a common depiction of Agua Regia in alchemical art. Agua Regia is a sulfate that is capable of dissolving gold - the lion is the solvent, and the sun is the gold.
