Kazuki Homura, who has innate psychic abilities, attends an educational institution to be trained as a mental engineer. Because he could read other people's emotions, he suffered abuse and discrimination. However, Shin Minase became his friend anyway. Minase is the son of a wealthy family who graduated from university at a young age. For some unknown reason, he is auditing classes at an institution that trains mental engineer.

Homura sets out to find his friend Minase, who had been with him in the cafeteria just moments before. Homura eventually finds Minase lying on a bench in the shade of the building and gives him the sandwich and juice he brought. Homura asks Minase why he left the cafeteria, but instead of answering, Minase tells him to read his mind. Homura refuses to do it because it is forbidden, impossible, and because he wants to remain friends with Minase. Minase repeats Homura's answer and leans against his shoulder.
