Origin
Chen Hui,[a] better known by his Buddhist name Xuanzang[b] and also known as Sanzang Fashi[c] (lit. "Tripitaka dharma teacher") among other names, was a Chinese Buddhist monk who famously traveled to India to obtain copies of the Buddhist scriptures (the Tripitaka) and produced an incomplete Chinese translation thereof.
The classic Chinese novel Journey to the West is a highly fictionalized version of his journey to India.
