Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children Card Game is a trading card game in the Megami Tensei franchise. Shin Megami Tensei Devil Children Card Game was released by MediaFactory from 2001-2003, was based on the Devil Children series, and was comprised of 7 set releases split across two blocks. During the second block, in order to match the DeviChil anime, the game went by the name of D-Children.

Overview

Devil Children Card Game is a two-player trading card game in which each player competes to be the first to reach 20 points using a deck of 40 cards.

Devil Children

Goumaden

Released in February 2001 alongside the Red Legend and Black Legend starter decks, this set was made up of 163 unique cards, with booster packs of 6 cards retailing for ¥150. This release also featured 42 additional cards that could only be obtained through Bandai's Carddass vending machines, with a Carddass pack of 4 cards retailing for ¥100, bringing the total number of cards for this release to 205.

Additionally, accompanying the Goumaden set was a set of two starter decks, Red Legend and Black Legend. The two decks each contained 40 cards, a die, an instruction manual, damage counters, markers, and a score board. The starter decks were released in two versions, Red and Black, each with exclusive alternate art variants of standard cards from the set. Aside from alternate art cards, there are no cards exclusive to the starter decks, as they can all be found in the first release, Goumaden. Each deck retailed for ¥1000, and both released simultaneously in February of 2001.[1]

Maohfūin

The second set, released in May 2001, was comprised of two sub-sets, the standard Maohfūin set sold at retail for ¥150 per pack of six cards, and the Struggle of Hades set sold through Carddass vending machines for ¥100 per pack of four cards. The retail Maohfūin set contained a total of 61 cards, with the Carddass set featuring 42 further cards, for a total of 103 cards.

Meshia Kakusei

The first release to lack a Latinized name, Meshia Kakusei also had two subsets, the standard retail packs with 6 cards for ¥150, and the Carddass set, named Norn, which sold for ¥100 for 4 cards. As with the previous release, the Carddass set contained 42 cards, while the main set contained 91, bringing the total to 133. Both sets were released on August 24th, 2001.

Maden Fukkatsu

A reprint set released on October 18th, 2001, this set compiled the cards from previous sets which were released via Bandai's Carddass vending machine system into retail booster packs. Each pack of 6 cards sold for ¥150, and in total, the release featured 126 total cards.

Byakusei Monshou

Comprised of 157 cards and released on November 15th, 2001, this was the first set to completely lack a Carddass set accompanying it. The booster packs retailed for ¥150 for 6 cards.

Two starter decks also accompanied the release of Byakusei Monshou, which were titled White Legend: Angel Side and White Legend: Devil Side. The decks came with 40 cards each, with both containing a manual, a playmat, dice, damage counters, and negotiation markers. The starter decks also contained a short comic explaining the rules of the game. The Angel Side was described as a deck for players who enjoy complicated and thoughtful play, while the Devil Side was described as a deck for players who like to overwhelm the opponent with incredible power. Each deck also contained two unique cards, with FW-001 Lucifer and FW-013 Death Phoenix in the Devil Side deck, and FW-002 Uriel and FW-012 Death Chimera in the Angel Side deck. Both decks released simultaneously on November 15th, 2001, and retailed for ¥1000 each.

Kakushin Joshou

The final set in the first block, Kakushin Joshou was released on March 22nd, 2002, and retailed for ¥250 for a pack of eight cards. The set contained a total of 126 cards.

D-Children

Ver. I

Released on November 22nd, 2002, the first set, simply titled Ver. I, was made up of 145 cards, 139 of which could be found in booster packs. The remaining six could only be found in the starter decks accompanying the set. Each pack retailed for ¥150 and contained five cards.

The included starter decks, labeled Light Version and Dark Version, each retailed for ¥1000 and came with a 40-card deck, a die, an instruction manual, a playmat, damage counters, and a score board. Light Version came with the exclusive cards LF-001 Rand and LF-073 Jin, while Dark Version had the exclusive cards LF-002 Gale and LF-74 Akira. Both sets contained the deck-exclusive cards LF-144 Magnetite and LF-145 Life Stone.[2]

Ver. II

Released on November 22nd, 2002, Ver. II was the final set release in the Devil Children Card Game. Retailing at ¥300 for 10 cards in a booster pack, this set features 97 total cards. As a promotional bonus, first-run booster boxes contained an alternate art promotional version of LS-056 Judy.[3]
