Welcome to the community hub for editing events, wiki-wide initiatives to improve the health of Megami Tensei Wiki!

What is an editing event?

Editing events are more or less what they sound like: "event periods" infrequently held on Megami Tensei Wiki in order to promote edits that contribute to the health of the wiki. Oftentimes, the goal is to improve the wiki in areas that may otherwise be ignored or given lower priority by editors. Megami Tensei is an extremely broad franchise with a wide variety of media spanning nearly 40 years of history. We naturally expect that some aspects of the franchise will fall by the wayside as a result, leaving some subjects with a sea of red links and stubs.

Editing events are intended to direct attention to certain topics - sometimes broad, sometimes narrow - that the staff of Megami Tensei Wiki believe need TLC. This is not intended to distract from any particular projects or initiatives already in progress, nor to restrict editors on what they can and cannot edit. However, by encouraging edits for a specific topic, we hope to plant the seed of initiative that eventually blooms into well-written, comprehensive articles.

Regular editors may also suggest future editing event topics to staff for consideration, but it is recommended to consider the overall health of the wiki rather than pet projects when making suggestions. A game with over a million sales with hundreds of stub pages that many users can contribute to is more likely to be the focus of an editing event than a project that requires specialized knowledge held by only one or two editors.

Because participating in editing events can disrupt previous plans, editors that do participate do receive some recognition from wiki staff. In particular, participants receive a medal, often themed around the topic in question. Participation in an editing event is only measured on two metrics: Performing a relevant helpful edit and recording your contribution(s) on that event's dedicated Community page. Medals from editing events are awarded by staff members solely on the basis of participation and are not meant to devalue or assign greater value to any particular user's contributions. It is the belief of staff that any edit, even a small one, is a step that was not previously taken and furthers our mission statement. Please note that certain medals may be reused in the future and are not intended to be limited-time. Staff may also award certain medals for exceptional work following the event period regarding that event's theme. We do not wish to pressure editors, but encourage them.

How do I help?

The event's dedicated Community page will include a variety of helpful suggestions for how to improve Megami Tensei Wiki on that particular theme.

The best way to help, however, is to pick a topic that you think will interest you and work on it! Perhaps you've wanted to watch an anime or read a manga for a while and this sounds like the perfect excuse to do so, or maybe you have an old guidebook lying around that could help fill out missing data across the wiki. Maybe you remember coming across, or even bookmarking, a helpful webpage on an obscure flip phone game that had slipped your mind until now. Perhaps no one else but you seems interested in something, and you feel like if you don't do it, no one will. You may have read an interview long ago that mentioned something interesting or important that you can't find a single mention of anywhere. You may be an audiophile who until now hasn't considered adding soundtrack data, or you feel like a relevant article is poorly sourced and you know how to improve it.

These are all just a fraction of the examples that could exist - Megami Tensei wiki is made up a community of editors with their own talents, interests, knowledge and connections, and every contribution pushes the wiki forward.

How do I report a contribution?

Contributions are reported on that event's dedicated Community page. Please do not use the talk pages of staff members or other editors to report contributions as this may be considered spam.

It is recommended to describe your edits rather than link your edits. For example, if you contributed by adding categories to 100 articles, please describe your contribution along the lines of Added categories related to x to 100 pages rather than individually linking 100 articles - this takes time and energy away from you and makes reading the contributions list harder for us. It is also encouraged to not change your list of contributions after every individual edit "journal style" as, once again, this takes time and energy away from you.

Consider updating your contributions once every few days - or, if you prefer, listing only your initial contribution to record participation and then ignore the community page altogether, whether you continue working on the theme or not. Participation recording should not be a second job or second project. That said, recording major contributions or areas of focus is still a good idea, because it may lead to another editor working on the same project.

The format for contributions should be as follows:

# ~~~ (Contribution)

Simply paste this at the bottom of the contributor list and replace the text labeled (Contribution) with the contributions you would like to talk about.

If you wish to be counted for participation but do not want your name to be listed, such as for privacy reasons, this is an acceptable reason to contact a member of wiki staff regarding your contribution. It is recommended to contact a staff member via our Discord server for maximum privacy as to the nature of your request, but a staff member's talk page is equally acceptable. However, as stated earlier, please remember that if you do not have any special requests, reporting contributions on user talk pages may be considered spam.
