Origin

Beowulf is the eponymous hero of the Anglo-Saxon epic Beowulf. He is a Geatish warrior (Geatland being identified with Götaland in modern-day Sweden) of the Wægmunding clan. He goes to Denmark to slay the giant Grendel and Grendel's mother. After he returns to Geatland, he becomes king for fifty years. His final act is his slaying of a dragon, though he is mortally wounded in the process.
