Origin
The Nyami Nyami is a river god of the Tonga people of Zambia and Zimbabwe with the head of a fish and the body of a snake.
Design
Nyami Nyami's design is of a snake-like figure curled up in a cylindrical fashion that gradually tightens to a point. This is similar to many depictions of Nyami Nyami in traditional art.[1]

Zambezi River god of the Tonga and Lozi tribes of southern Africa.
He has the body of a snake and the head of a fish or dragon. He is said to protect people near the water and provide them with food. He lived with his wife, Kitapo, until the construction of the Kariba Dam, which separated them. The local inhabitants were also forced to move to barren land. It is said that the great floods that occurred during the construction of the dam were caused by the Nyami Nyami, who was angered by these events. |
