Demon Haunts are locations in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.

Overview

Demon haunts are first unlocked once the Nahobino activates the Leyline Fount in Shiba. The location is available in every Leyline Fount after the demon haunt is visited for the first time.

Inside of a demon haunt, the Nahobino is able to interact with their demon allies. By defeating enemies, exploring areas, completing quests, and progressing through the game, the player can unlock special conversations with the demons present in the haunt. These conversations have a chance of giving free items or leveling up an ally. Demons that have a special conversation available will have an icon displayed on the mini-map and on the status menu screen. Guest allies, such as Yoko Hiromine or Yuzuru Atsuta, have a small chance of appearing in a haunt as well, offering unique dialogue.

By sitting on the bench in a demon haunt, the Nahobino is able to temporarily separate from and have a special conversation with Aogami. These special conversations have the chance to give new stat points, which can be allotted after the conversation ends.

When speaking to a demon ally, the Nahobino is able to give gifts that increase a demon's impression and makes special conversations more likely. Two items can be gifted, Simple Demon Boxes and Lavish Demon Boxes.

The player is able to activate a "Free cam" while inside of a demon haunt. The "Free cam" option allows the player to separate the camera from the Nahobino, and look around the demon haunt from any angle. Players are able to hide the UI, adjust the camera's height and angle, and temporarily increase or decrease its movement speed while holding the specified button. The Nahobino is not able to be controlled while in the "Free cam" mode.

Gameplay

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance

When speaking to demons, they have 3 different types of events: Trust, Power Up, and Item. Trust is tracked separately from Power Ups. Power Up events and Item events have additional conditions based on the number of times the demon has seen the results screen.

Trust Events

Trust points are earned in the following ways:

Category Activity Trust Points
Battle Party Win battles or virtual battles 20
Defeat Magatsuhi Demons 30
Win event battles and Magatsuka battles 40
Defeat story bosses 60
Stock Win battles 10
Gifts Give a Simple Demon Box 40
Give a Lavish Demon Box 200

Details:

  • Points are earned for the above actions, but not when the demon is dead.
  • Points get a multiplier if an enemy is 1 to 10+ levels higher. The multiplier scales from x1.1 to x2.0.
  • After accumulating 1500 points, the demon will have a trust event.
  • If the Nahobino gets rid of the demon (discard, fuse), the demon's points and the record of the trust event occurring will be reset.
  • If the Nahobino resummons the demon from the Compendium or is on New Game Plus, the demon will retain its trust points and trust event status.

During a trust event, demons can obtain:

  • Stat parameter +4 (Automatically assigned based on what kind of stats they gain while leveling)
  • Skill potential +1 (Only for Potentials that are between +1 and +5. Non-recovery and support potentials can be increased +2. Recovery and support can only be increased +1.)
  • Learn a new skill up to 5 ranks over their normal Skill Manifestation ranking

Power Up and Item Events

Points are earned in the following ways:

Category Activity Power Up Points
Battle Win a battle 10
Defeat a story boss 50
Map Talk to a Miman 10
Obtain power from a statue 20
Destroy an Abscess 30
Find a new Leyline (while above the recommended level) 30
Find a new Leyline (while below the recommended level) 80
Discover a new Da'at or a new dungeon 100
Quest Clear a quest 20
Gifts Give a Simple Demon Box 200
Give a Lavish Demon Box 1000

Details:

  • Points are earned for the above actions, but not when the demon is dead.
  • After accumulating 1000 points, the game then checks to see if the demon can have a power up event (see below). It will continue accumulating points above 1000.
  • After a power up event, the demon will lose 1000 points.
  • If the Nahobino gets rid of the demon (discard, fuse), the demon's power up points will be reset.
  • Points are not saved with the demon in the compendium. They are carried over to New Game Plus.

How to get power up and item events:

  • Upon seeing the results screen (after a battle, a quest, or a statue), the demon gains 1 common point.
  • If the demon has 5+ common points after gaining 1000 power up points, then the demon will have a power up event and lose 5 common points.
  • If the demon has 10+ common points but has not triggered a power up event, then it will have an item event and lose 10 common points.

During a power up event, demons can obtain:

  • Stat parameter +2-3 (Automatically assigned based on what kind of stats they gain while leveling)
  • Learn a new skill up to 2 ranks over their normal Skill Manifestation ranking
