"Forced Battle" is used as the theme in minor or optional boss battles and other scripted battles forced upon the player, hence the track's title. As with the game's "Normal Battle" and "Boss Battle" themes, the track uses distorted, spoken voice samplings in its composition. These were created by Shoji Meguro combining samplings of his voice with samplings of macOS Text-to-Speech's Albert voice.[1] Shoji Meguro has stated in the liner notes of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Original Soundtrack that the voices are spoken excerpts taken from the Book of Revelation.[2] The exact spoken lines, however, are left unknown, prompting a number of unconfirmed theories and fan-made lyrics.
The theme appears as track 10 in both Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne Original Soundtrack and Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne Sound Collection.
Trivia
- The theme has also been referred to by fans as "Fierce Battle", however this is a misnomer of the track's official title.
- The theme has also been attributed unconfirmed lyrics by fans, with the track's chorus notoriously claimed to be "One more god rejected". These fan-made lyrics have grown exponentially in popularity among the fandom and are often falsely listed as the track's intended lyrics, however the actual spoken lines used in the track have not been explicitly confirmed by Shoji Meguro.
