Synopsis

The prologue sees Newbie, Shiang Sun, Vince and Honey Sweet taking down a demon suspected to be responsible for a recent outbreak. Just as they report to Megakin back at the hideout, a news broadcast airs on TV reporting about a dead body being found in Shinjuku, apparently one of many. Megakin speculates a demon may be responsible as the autopsy indicates no weapons were involved, and other unnamed liberators agree with his theory. After hacking a police database, Shiang Sun finds that everyone who was murdered belonged to a popular cult called the "Star of Wisdom". Due to the gruesome nature of the case, Megakin sees it fit for the quartet in the opening to investigate the cult.

In scene one, the four liberators arrive at the cult's headquarters, they eavesdrop on some guards discussing using a sacrifice for a summon that is apparently already underway. Vince tries to confront the guards about this, but before he can ask questions, demons appear and tear the guards apart as revenge for "making them imperfect" as a result of a faulty summoning process. After dispatching the demons, the liberators enter the main building. While it seems empty at first, Vince is able to find a hidden doorway behind a bookshelf, which Shiang Sun hacks in order to unlock it. The secret passage leads the group underground, where they happen across the gouged head of a large animal and several mummified human fingers. Honey Sweet recalls seeing a bunch of cultists at the entrance with a missing ring finger, confirming that they are indeed real. Before Shiang Sun can process his disgust, Vince tells him to be quiet and listen to faint chanting in the another room. Making haste, they are halted by the smell of burning incense used to manipulate people to join their ranks. Finally reaching the summoning area, the cast is met with a woman covered in blood at the foot of the supposed leader with a knife in their right hand and a beating heart in their left.

Scene two opens with the cultists immediately attacking the liberators to defend the Reverend, buying enough time for the summoning to be complete. As the cultists rejoice, the demon begins to speak an incomprehensible language, revealing itself to be the God of Chaos, Nyarlathoptep. Asking the cultists why he was summoned, the Reverend steps forward to to wish for the demon to drown the world in chaos. Shiang Sun attempts to attack Nyarlathotep with his demons and asks the cult members to run, they retort. One member claims that their reality is a living hell, and while God may not save anyone, they can summon their own god to change their reality. Vince and Shiang Sun admit that at some point in their lives they would've sympathized and even agreed with some of the cultists, they ultimately resolve to stop Nyarlathotep regardless. Before they can attack, however, Nyarlathotep not only summons a hoard of demons, but conjures an illusion to make humans see some of their fellow man as demons, while some demons appear human. Unable to discern man from demons, the cultists fly into a panicked frenzy, one even trying to attack Vince. Vince tries to find Honey Sweet, mistaking another girl for her. While he tries to protect her as well, she ends up stabbing him in the back. Nyarlathoptep watches the macabre scene in glee, laughing to himself about the weakness of humans in the face of "true chaos". With the results of his summoning going haywire, the Reverend and other cultists attempt to escape. The cutscene ends with Nyarlathotep disguising himself as a human to sew further disorder.

Scene three begins with Nyarlathotep hiding in the crowd of humans, continuing to enjoy watching them fight amongst themselves. However, he is surprised when Honey Sweet is instantly able to identify him, claiming his icky black soul telling her who he really is. Her team of demons attack Nyarlathotep, and while deflecting their attack Nyarlathotep realizes that because Honey is not a human or demon, she is immune to the illusion that he created. Their battle is interrupted by cultists trying to help the demon disguised as human by attacking Honey, as Nyarlathotep uses this opportunity to disappear into the crowd once more. Honey sets out to find Nyarlathotep again, only to be attacked by none other than Shiang Sun, who sees her as a demon. To prove that she is the real Honey Sweet, she calls Megakin, only to find out that their leader is also under Nyarlathotep's spell, claiming the hideout is overrun by demons. She tries to explain the illusion, but Megakin is too panicked to process her words and hangs up. Figuring Vince is the only person she can still rely on, she goes to find her partner. Despite her being able to spot her quickly, Vince bats her away. It turns out that Nyarlathotep has disguised himself as Honey and tricked Vince to believing that he is the real Honey Sweet. Vince attacks her, but Shiang Sun spots them but still sees them both as demons, meaning he attacks as well. With all the liberators at each others throats, Honey flees the scene. Arriving outside, she finds out that the illusion has taken over the whole city, Nyarlathotep enjoying himself among the carnage. All on her lonesome, Honey realizes that she will have to defeat the god of chaos on her own.

Scene four starts with an injured Honey scanning the city to find Nyarlathotep. Spotting him, she attacks while he is distracted thinking about his human body. As she beats down on him, the illusion begins to wear off. As the rest of the party break free from the spell, Honey calls to warn them about Nyarlathotep and his illusions and that she needs their help fighting him. Shiang Sun, Vince and Newbie arrive to help Honey, with the rest of the liberators on route. Just as they arrive, Nyarlathotep strikes Honey and she falls to the ground, thoroughly exhausted after fighting on her own. Honey Sweet encourages Vince, telling him to be brave and that he'll be able to tell friend from foe because of his friendship with the liberators. After saying her piece, she succumbs to her wounds and dies. Nyarlathotep cackles at Vince's pain and casts his illusion once more. Despite Honey's body turning into a demon, Vince clutches it tightly, claiming he won't make the same mistake again. Once the rest of the liberators arrive, the illusion is already under way. Just before they fall to confusion and try to kill each other, Vince appears to berate them. He calls them pathetic for not being able to tell friend from foe despite the precious bonds of friendship that they all believe in, and that he is able to see past the illusions now. Inspired by his words, the other liberators are able to break through the trickery as well. Nyarlathotep decides to drop his disguise and warps reality in order to fight the liberators.

In the epilogue, Nyarlathotep's reality warping illusions continue to trouble the liberators, but Newbie reminds them to believe in their fellowship to see past it. Breaking the spell, the liberators unleash various combo attacks on the demon, using their synergy as a team to overwhelm him. After Vince lands the final blow, Nyarlathotep begins to fade, claiming to be sufficiently entertained. As he parts, he wonders if the liberators will be able to rely on their bonds if the world once again turns to chaos. A few days pass and Honey Sweet was able to be repaired after tireless maintenance from Vince. The liberators reflect on the recent events, chilled at the implications of the mass hysteria conjured by Nyarlathotep, yet assure themselves that their fellowship will always let them see through the illusions of chaos.
