Profile

Origin

Vetala are a type of evil spirit in Hindu folklore. They are described as the spirits of the dead who roam the earth, trapped between the realms of life and death. Vetala are said to reside in or near charnel grounds, an ancient type of above-ground burial site. They possess the corpses of those interred in the charnel and use that body to roam the earth and disturb humans.

In Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II, Vetala is a recolor of Girimekhala.

In Shin Megami Tensei, Vetala is a recolor of Preta. In the Mega-CD version, while Preta received a new sprite that matched its artwork more closely, Vetala's sprite is largely unchanged.

In the Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers artwork, Vetala is designed to appear like an energy-based entity without physical form. Its pose is referencing the character Kingdark from the tokusatsu series Kamen Rider X.
