Traits are a mechanic for Persona introduced in Persona 5 Royal. Traits were added as part of the game expansion and are not present in Persona 5. All Persona have a single trait that is not part of their skillset, but can be synergized with learned skills for more effective outcomes.

Persona 5 Royal

Each Persona has one inherent trait that is their default on being acquired via negotiation, fusion, or awakening. These traits cannot be modified except when a Compendium Persona is newly fused in the Velvet Room. Trait benefits include reducing the SP cost of magic skills, improving ailment infliction, or improving physical or magical damage.

At the time of fusion, one trait can be chosen out of a small pool that is based on the Persona being sacrificed and the created Persona's inherent trait. Once a trait has been chosen, it cannot be changed without performing a new fusion. Traits that are inherent to high-level Persona can be passed on along with skills to lower-level Persona via fusion and registered to the Compendium to make Persona available earlier in the game more powerful.

A list of traits in Persona 5 Royal provides a reference for what traits are inherent to each persona, and their in-game description.
