Purpose

Citation template used to cite references from video game media.

Usage

Citation templates must be enclosed in <ref></ref> tags in order to be properly displayed and sorted. Pages will also need a ==References== section with Template:Reflist. This section must be placed near the bottom of the page, before any navigation templates and categories.

This template includes several parameters for citing certain information. Some are required and others only optional.

Parameter Description Function
quote The quoted text from the video game. This should include the name of the subject that is speaking or displaying the quoted text, formatted as '''Subject:''' Quote. The named subject should be attributed to the name used in the text window. If there is none, go with their official name or an appropriate descriptor (such as Man, Woman, Sign, etc). If a character is mentioned whose name can be changed in-game, go with either their default name or otherwise the name used on the wiki (such as Protagonist, Hero, etc).

If quoting from two or more subjects, such as in a brief conversation, indicate the subjects' names and separate their lines with a /. For example: '''Subject A:''' Quote. / '''Subject B:''' Quote.

This parameter should also be used when citing Japanese or non-English text. If a translation is available, add it to the translquote parameter.

Required
translquote If the quoted text has been translated, use this parameter. Optional; use for translations
title The title of the video game. Required
developer The developer(s) of the video game. Optional
publisher The publisher of the video game. Optional
platform The gaming platform the video game was released for. This parameter should be used if the quoted text is specific to a certain version of the game.

If a version of a game was released as multi-platform, this parameter can instead specify the year date the version came out in. For example: "2022 re-release".

Optional
version The version of the video game. Format as 1.0. Optional
lang The language the video game is in. This parameter should be used when citing non-English quotes. Optional
transl The source of the video game's translation. This parameter must be used if the quoted text is sourced from a fan translation. Add the name of the translator or group, e.g. "Aeon Genesis", "DDSTranslation", etc. Optional
