The Secret Laboratory is a dungeon in Persona 4. It becomes available to investigate on September 16th after Naoto Shirogane goes missing and must be completed by October 5th.
Investigation
After Naoto goes missing, the following must be done before the player can access the Secret Laboratory:
- Speak with the female student in front of classroom 1-1 at Yasogami High School.
- Speak with the police officer in the Northern Shopping District on Monday, Wednesday or Friday.
- Speak with Chie Satonaka at the Samegawa Flood Plain Riverbank.
- Speak with the police officer in the Northern Shopping District again.
- Speak with the housewife in front of the shrine.
- Speak with the police officer in the Southern Central Shopping District on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. While speaking with him, select these dialogue options:
- "Has an obsession with the case."
- "They consider him a child."
The earliest possible date that the Secret Laboratory can be properly accessed is September 17th.

Game Appearances
The Secret Laboratory was created due to Naoto clinging to the childish solution of being reborn through modification to fulfill the repressed dream of becoming an adult man. The floors go deeper and deeper underground, making it seem like the base of a secret organization.[1][2] After obtaining the Leader Key, the Investigation Team continues down to basement floor 9 where they find Naoto Shirogane and Shadow Naoto. Naoto rejects Shadow Naoto, causing the Shadow to transform into a robot that attacks the group. Once Shadow Naoto has been defeated, Naoto acknowledges the need to accept oneself for who you really are, and Shadow Naoto turns into the Persona Sukuna-Hikona.
If the dungeon is not cleared by the fog deadline of October 5th, then Kanji will call the protagonist and tell him that Naoto's dead body was found.

Nomenclature
The "secret society" in the Japanese name originates from how the dungeon is based on the tokusatsu genre and evil organizations called "secret societies" are a common trope in shows such as Kamen Rider.
