Resistance Levels are a mechanic in Shin Megami Tensei: Nine.
Overview
Resistance Levels are the method through which Shin Megami Tensei: Nine displays elemental affinities. Resistances are represented by a positive number from +1 to +9, while weaknesses are represented by negative numbers from -1 to -8. Healing and Almighty Resistance Levels are also included, but all demons have a Resistance Level of +1 to the latter.
A 反 on the end of a positive Resistance Level indicates that a character repels that particular element, sending a portion of the damage that character takes back to the attacker. A 吸 indicates that the character absorbs that element. It isn't possible to Null a particular element -- even with a Resistance Level of +9, all attacks will deal at least 1 damage.
Certain spells can temporarily increase Resistance Levels to a particular element. For example, Crystal Wall increases the Electricity resistance level of the user's party by 4 for 3 turns.
