This is a list of references to the Megami Tensei franchise in other media.
- Various loading screens in the game recreate the box art of classic video games in the game's art style. One of these loading screens is a recreation of Shin Megami Tensei II's Super Famicom box art.
Due to the development team sharing members from the Persona series, specifically Persona 3 and Persona 4, multiple easter eggs referencing those games are present.
- Gekkoukan High School's school emblem can be seen in the far right-most corner of the bar.
- When exiting the bar, a poster depicting the Japanese box art for Persona 3 FES can be seen on the right side of the screen, albeit partially obscured by the Stray Sheep's neon sign.
- A small model of Teddie can be found sitting at the far right corner of the bar. A poster with Teddie can also be seen in the bathroom above the sink, on the right wall, more easily visible when Vincent washes his face.
- In Catherine: Full Body, small plushies of Morgana and Koromaru are also present with Teddie.
- Songs from Persona 3 (including a few tracks from FES and Portable), Persona 4, Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner, Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner 2, Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne can be unlocked for play at the bar's jukebox.
In Catherine: Full Body, various references to Persona 5 and other titles released after the original Catherine were added:
- Joker (Persona 5) is a playable character in the game's Colosseum two-player mode and Tower of Babel single-player mode.
- Leblanc and the Phantom Thieves also make a brief appearance in a cutscene together with Trisha, unlocked after the player completes a level in Babel as Joker.
- Rin's room has a small model of Wanna-kun, a mascot for a security company from Persona 5.
- Model of Morgana can be also seen in Rin's room in a specific ending scene.
- Songs from Persona 5 and Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth have been added to the bar's jukebox.

- The director, designer, and writer of the French RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Guillaume Broche said that the game's user interface and camera work during battles was heavily inspired by Persona 5. Additionally, some of the characters' in-battle animations were based on Joker's.[1]
- On the fifth island, the collectable Monokuma dolls can be seen wearing a keyboard strapped to their forearms with wires connecting to different bits of machinery around their body, possibly referencing the COMPs worn in the Shin Megami Tensei and Devil Summoner series.
- In episode 2 of the anime adaptation, Uehara finds Amano at an arcade and they play against one another in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. Amano uses Yu Narukami and Uehara uses Teddie. Uehara wins both rounds.
- The stage for the character Thin Nen, later known as Chinnen, features multiple Megami Tensei references. The location is a Buddhist temple that also serves as a dance club. Shiva, Kali, and Yamata-no-Orochi can be seen as statues in the background. There is also a chance of the human dancers in the background being replaced by Titania, Lakshmi, Yakshini, Man-Eater, and Bodyconian.
- The mascot commander Sirei tells Takumi to yell "I am thou" to get himself in the heat of battle, referencing how characters first summon their Personas in the Persona series. In the same line, he also says to say "Oraoraora" referencing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
- Later in the game, the character Darumi says you might reverse her social link, referencing the Social Link mechanic of the Persona series and how they could be reversed in Persona 3.
- In chapter 6 of the manga adaption, when the character Eru Chitanda states that she doesn't get angry because she doesn't like doing things that exhaust her, the other members of the Classic Literature Club begin to briefly see her as an angel. Within this panel, there is a mock status screen which says "Special Skills: Sukunda, Dormina, Divine Punishment" referencing multiple skills in the Megami Tensei franchise. This reference is not present in the anime adaption.
Kazuma Kaneko's Tsukuyomi
- In the OVA adaptation of the manga Kiss×sis there is a poster for a game called Bingo→! clearly parodying Persona 4.[6]
- Whenever the main character receives an email, a ringtone will briefly play. These can be changed in the options menu. The main character can unlock secret ringtones by performing certain actions within the dungeons. These secret ringtones feature music from Shin Megami Tensei, Shin Megami Tensei II and Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. This was removed from the 2020 remaster due to not being published by Atlus.
- During the "Jam Theory" Table Talk, when Ichiban Kasuga and Koichi Adachi are discussing how making jam out of food you dislike can make it more appealing, Chitose Fujinomiya sarcastically asks "What is this, the Cathedral of Shadows for food?"
- In episode four of the anime adaptation of Magia Record, a spin-off of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Kaede talks about a rumor where if you watch a television at 4:44 a.m., you'll be able to see your future, referencing Persona 4.
- When investigating various CRT televisions displaying static and color bars, Shinigami will tell Yuma to put his hand on the screens to see if he gets sucked in, referencing Persona 4.

As Atlus's 35th anniversary game, Metaphor contains multiple names from the Megami Tensei franchise.
- The Elite Seeker archetype is called the Soul Hacker.
- The Elite Masked Dancer archetype is called the Persona Master. The masks used to create accessories for the Masked Dancer share the names with the major arcana, such as the "Lovers White Mask". The archetype is also associated with a mask emblem that resembles the mask on the backsides of the tarot cards in Persona 3 and Persona 4. The Persona Master's Masquerade Charge skill depicts the archetype equipping glasses, pulling down the Jester tarot, putting a gun to their head with lines similar to the cut-in animation in the background, then shooting the card.
- The Elite Summoner archetype is called the Devil Summoner. The captain and his squad collect talismans named after Megami Tensei races, such as the "Talisman of the Fairy", to craft new summoning tools. Many of the summons are Demons from Megami Tensei:

- Various skills appear in Metaphor that originate in Megami Tensei series games. Many of these skills are only used in untranslated games and have gotten their first official localization in Metaphor. Some skills were localized to have the same name as Megami Tensei skills but have different Japanese spellings, those skills are not listed here:
- The protagonist Megumi Sato is a fan of the Megami Tensei franchise and owns several items of merchandise from the series.
- A Jack Frost plushie can be seen in the background of her room in chapter 1.
- In chapter 3 it's revealed that she has a hand-drawn Karukozaka High School emblem sticker attached to her student handbook.
- If the player selects "Play Game", after the event there is a chance for the protagonist to tweet “god why are these demon negotiations so hard!!!!! are they fucking high? Maybe I should get high too”.
- Needy Streamer Overload has an achievement titled "SMT" which has multiple Shin Megami Tensei references.
- The achievement's description reads: “The internet died... and I was given life.”, which is a reference to the Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne quote “Tokyo died... and I was given life.”
- This achievement is unlocked by viewing a cutscene where the protagonist places her hands on her face as the screen is warped and cuts to the text "DELETE IMMEDIATELY" being typed repeatedly. This scene is a reference to an urban legend about the original Shin Megami Tensei or Shin Megami Tensei II, which claimed that the game's opening cutscene could glitch causing the intro to freeze and mass output the text すぐにけせ sugi ni kese meaning "turn it off".
- In chapter 13 of the manga, the main character Tomoko Kuroki can be seen fighting the post-game boss battle against the Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner protagonist in the PlayStation version of Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. This reference was also present in episode 7 of the anime adaptation "Since I'm Not Popular, I'll Enjoy My Summer Break", but slightly changed so that the in-game character had blond hair, wore red and black clothing, and was in a different pose.
- In chapter 200, Tomoko reminds her friend, Hina Nemoto, that she borrowed her copy of Persona 5 Royal and asks if she's finished the game yet. Hina replies that she had reached the third semester, but her progress had slowed because her awareness that she was reaching the finale caused her to lose motivation to play the game. In response, Tomoko asks her whether or not she self-inserts as a man when playing a game with a male protagonist, to which Hina answers no. Tomoko follows up by asking how many girls she romanced during her playthrough and Hina states she only had one. Tomoko replies by saying she had 10 different girlfriends, because while trying to play from a male perspective her heart went wild.

- In the "Rewrite Quest" dungeon-crawler RPG minigame, one of Kanbe Kotori's lines when using a familiar references Persona.[7]
- In episode 126 of the anime adaption, the main cast get sucked into a video game inspired by Dragon Quest. After everyone manages to escape the video game, the character Kururu suggests playing "Kerosona 3" next, referencing Persona 3, saying that "it's perfect for escaping reality".
Touhou Kaikidan
- In the web and light novel versions of the story, the protagonist Makoto Misumi uses the alias "Raidou Kuzunoha" referencing the Devil Summoner series character of the same title. In the manga and anime adaptions, he uses an altered version of the title, "Makoto Kuzunoha".
- In the indie RPG Undertale the name of the item "Steak in the Shape of Mettaton's Face" is in reference to the line "Fsteak" from a Persona 4 fan comic, something that would later go on to be referenced in Marie's social link in Persona 4 Golden.[9]
- During the tenth anniversary of the game, the creator Toby Fox mentions how the song "ASGORE" was heavily inspired by the Persona 4 song "The Fog".[10]
