Akemi Nakajima
Akemi Nakajima is a character in the Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei series. The first protagonist in the series, he is the original creator of the Demon Summoning Program and the reincarnation of Izanagi.
Profile
Nakajima is a member of the gifted class at Ten Saints High School. His grades are average by the standards of a gifted student, but he is one of the most talented computer programmers in Japan. He makes video games as a hobby, which are said to be much better than most commercial games. He is cool-headed, though arrogant, and comes off as a loner, only having one friend in the form of Kenichi Takai.
He is described as being androgynous, and it is said repeatedly he could easily pass as a woman if he crossdressed. He is depicted with almost shoulder-length dark hair, which is brown on the novel covers and black in the OVA, usually with three distinctive bangs across the left side of his head. He wears a black gakuran-style school uniform, and is usually seen using or carrying a laptop and well as his school bag. He has many female admirers for his looks, but has little interest in them, and shows little regard for women demonstrated by his interactions with his mother, Obara, and even Yumiko Shirasagi when they first met.

Trivia
- In the Japanese version of Persona 3, the protagonist will use the screename "N-jima" when interacting with Maya, a reference to Nakajima.
Nomenclature
The family name 中島 Nakajima means "island in a pond" and the given name 朱実 Akemi means "vermilion fruit." Nakajima was the author Aya Nishitani's surname as a young child,[1] and Akemi was the name of his cousin, though the character sharing his name with her was an accident.[2]
