Isamu is a nonchalant, hormonal teenager. He openly discusses his crush on his homeroom teacher, Ms. Takao, and even involves his friends in helping him seduce her.[1] Beneath his clownish antics, however, he is slowly revealed to be deeply lonely and insecure. Following The Conception, he becomes trapped in the Amala Network where he is forced to ally with and fight demons to survive. He develops resentment during this which culminates in him developing the isolationist Reason of Musubi.
With his signature gray newsboy cap and flame-patterned boots, Isamu is hard to miss. He wears a white shirt covered by a black vest and a red and white necklace that matches his boots, as well as ripped black skinny jeans with a silver belt buckle resembling some kind of demonic, horned face that matches a similar ring on his right hand. He has two longer locks of hair framing both sides of his face, and without his hat, his hairline and the locks form a teardrop-shaped frame around his face.
After becoming a Pseudo-fiend, Isamu's appearance drastically changes as he appears shirtless with several horrific faces materializing on his torso with bulging veins.

According to Kazuma Kaneko he designed Isamu as a people pleaser who would choose his fashions based on gaining the approval of others.[2]
