Yasogami High School is a location in Persona 4. It is a high school located in the town of Inaba and serves a central role in the story of the game.

Profile

Yasogami High School consists of two main buildings, namely the Classroom Building and Practice Building. The Classroom Building mainly contains teaching classrooms, with three classrooms per school year. The building has three floors, each corresponding to a specific school year. For example, the second year classrooms 2-1, 2-2, and 2-3 are located on the second floor. Some auxiliary rooms, such as the faculty office and student council room are also situated in the Classroom Building.

The Practice Building consists of two floors, and is connected to the Classroom Building via a walkway on the second floor as well as a path under the walkway on the first floor. The Practice Building contains a variety of auxiliary rooms used mainly by club activities. This includes the music club room and the meeting room, used by the band and drama club respectively. Other than the two main buildings, Yasogami High School also contains a gym and field, each used by the basketball club and soccer club respectively.

Game Appearances

Persona 3 Portable

The female protagonist visits Yasogami High School[a] in August, 2009 for a two-day training camp if she joins the volleyball or tennis club. Ms. Kanou, the advisor for the club chosen, refers to the school as "rustic," and notes the lack of nearby clubs or convenience stores.[1]

Persona 4

Yasogami High School is one of the main settings of the story of Persona 4. The protagonist transfers to this school as a second year due to his temporary stay in Inaba for a year. The rumor about the Midnight Channel is well-known at the school, evident by how many students talk about watching it and seeing people such as Mayumi Yamano and Saki Konishi.[2][3]

Yasogami High School schedules several school events throughout the year. This includes a school camping trip in June, a school field trip scheduled in September, and a school culture festival held in October. In 2011, during the events of Persona 4, the school visits Gekkoukan High School and the surrounding Tatsumi Port Island area as part of its field trip. The 1st and 2nd year students go on the camping trip and class field trip together.

When the Fog from the TV World starts entering the real world near the climax of the game, the faculty and students at Yasogami High School are also affected, with rumors of students falling ill and even fainting.

Nomenclature

Yasogami comes from the legend of the Hare of Inaba, which gives names to multiple locations around Inaba. Okuninushi's brethren are collectively called the Yasogami in the tale. Although the kanji used for Yaso, 八十, means "Eighty", it is more accurately understood as a metaphorical term referring to an innumerable number of gods.
